November 2009,
After Mathilda's market on Sunday, we had a little feature in their blog.
Community
We value being part of the community and have been involved in the following community events:
- Red Hill Market Starlight Children's Foundation fundraiser
- Australia's biggest morning tea event
- Community markets such as Elwood, Boneo and Balnarring markets of which profits support schools/rotary club.
Fundraising
In light of the earthquake and tsunami crisis facing Japan. We decided to start a market fundraiser selling origami Peace Cranes for $1 with all proceeds going to Red Cross Japan Appeal. So far we raised $72.
Fair Trade
We support fair trade collective 'Thai Tribal Crafts' with our range of fair trade purses. The base for these purses are woven by the Karen women in Northern Thailand and finished by a Sewing women's group in Chiang Mai each group belongs to the Thai Tribal Craft collective which is a member of the World Fair Trade Organisation and ensures they receive a fair price for their work. The sustainability of each groups women ensures they dont have to go to the bigger cities away from their families to seek alternative forms of work.

Our greeting cards are lovingly handmade in Melbourne with our dearest friends and family in mind. They are made with the finest Japanese Yuzen papers imported from Japan. We place a lot of emphasis on being kind to the community and environment and our cards are made with 100% recycled card from an Australian company that uses a no bleach whitening technique. They are blank inside for your very special message.
These pretty pendants are one of our most popular items. Made with glass, fabric/paper and varnishes and finished with a silver plated bail. They are also available as a brooch.
These are water resistant and not recommended for children 3 and under.
Handmade in Melbourne
We work in collaboration with wood turner, James Brown to make these vintage style kokeshi dolls which are entirely handmade in Melbourne. James is a retired wood turner living in Mt Eliza and creates the base of the dolls by hand using a lathe. He has used vintage kokeshi dolls as the inspiration for the doll shapes. Most dolls are made using 3-4 parts that slot together.
Magnets
Our glass magnet sets make cute little gifts to show those people you love your thinking about them.
Our bright Peg Magnets are the perfect practical gift or to brighten up your fridge at home and hang those special photos.
We support the environment by offering 100% recycled cards!
